Legs On The Wall & AsiaNow:
The Tale of Samulnori @ Sydney Opera House

06/06/2015- 07/06/2015

A high-energy combination of acrobatics and live music.

Description

Suitable for children 8+The Tale of Samulnori is an exciting new work created in collaboration between the innovative Australian company Legs On The Wall and South Korea’s AsiaNow, combining traditional and contemporary acrobatics, multimedia and live music.Inspired by a Korean fable, The Tale of Samulnori tells the story of a peaceful land sent suddenly into turmoil when a dark cloud of pollution arrives, bringing confusion and despair to the people. Four children are sent to the corners of the earth where they must convince a guardian to hand over a treasure – a rare and precious musical instrument which, when played in harmony, will restore peace.

Shaun Gladwell‘s two-part project is exhibited across two sites: SCAF features a major new commission The Lacrima Chair and UNSW Galleries presents Collection+: Shaun Gladwell.

The Lacrima Chair is comprised of several interrelated fragments: three video works, a sculpture and a book. Each component makes obvious and abstruse references to flight, distance, cultural translation and the notion of function in art. Since completing a residency at the Cité Internationale des Art in 2000, Gladwell has had an ongoing interest in French culture. The Lacrima Chair explores the cultural connection between France and Australia.
